They say that every petrol head should own one at least once in their life.   So a couple of weeks ago, after a 48 hour test drive, I have ordered an Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.2 Diesel. Not influenced by last weeks Top Gear and although I will be towing with it, it won't be in the same way as they did on Top Gear   Delivery date is mid June.

As SUVs go, they look pretty good. And Joey seemed to like it! I got my Alfa badge a few years ago, with a V6 Spider..

I've had two. A 156 2.0 JTS Lusso. And a 159 2.4 JTD Ti. Lovely when they're not at the dealer being fixed.

I love the look of the 4c.

Every review says they don't handle properly, though.

Sure fire future classic, though.

Non sequitur - I once went to look at a GTV6 (in the early nineties). It was four/five years old and there were actual holes in the foot well from rust, the owner was lamenting the electrics and the driving position would have suited a twisted silver back gorilla.

I'd still love a nicely preserved one though.

There was a delay when I ordered mine but the order has now gone through. I ordered mine through Glyn Hopkin in St.Albans. I have used them for my last two cars and have got a very big discount  ;)  which I doubt could be beaten by anyone. Put it this way I was considering buying nearly new until I spoke to Glyn Hopkin.

Is the 500X going Ian? & how come you are changing at such a low mileage this time? :D :D :D

I have just clocked up 83 000 miles in the 500X in two years and has been brilliant

I liked the look of the Stelvio when I first saw saw some press release pictures and drawings. Then a few weeks ago something triggered the need to own an one. After the 48 hour test drive I was smitten. Its probably my 3/4 life crisis, VX was mid life.

Being stuck in slow moving traffic quite a lot the auto box will be a massive bonus.

I am slightly overweight when towing the VX in the 500X and could do with some extra grunt so the extra 90 bhp will be a benefit.

The extra space in the boot also means that for the first time in over twenty odd years of driving to Italy we will not have to fold the seats down to fit our luggage in and can bring back more wine :)

I know depreciation will be massive but if I was worried about that I would never have bought 95% of the 30 odd cars I have bought since 1979. I spend a couple of hours a day in my car so would rather be sitting in something I like than making do.

I had the diesel GT in red with tan interior. It was a beautiful thing, not so reliable unfortuntaley. I think they no how to make a car that people want to be in. I am considering another one. The Stelvio looks lovely.
