About time I bought one rather than squeezing my head in sweaty rentals. Only do a couple of track days a year so looking at a Sparco Club X1 or similar. EVerYthing, Ive read said try them on first but I cant find anywhere nearby where thats possible, does anyone have any suggestions?

Absolutely essential you try on a number, it is amazing how different they feel even though they look much the same.  You will find one that fits really comfortably, no pressure points giving you a head ache and a really snug fit that touches everywhere and presses nowhere.

What they said. I have an Arai shaped head, Bell just didnt fit. So go somewhere you can try a few. Demon Tweeks is probably a good call.

Apparently I have a Bell end shaped head :)

Again, after trying on a few, Bell fit my head lots better than the others.

Another Bell (end?) here.

Yes you really need to try the helmet on. You probably won't even know your size ?

I tried a few on at Demon Tweeks (Wrexham) but there is also Grand Prix Racewear (Silverstone).

I was surprised at the shape differences. I was wearing a death trap Aldi bike helmet initially which pinched the top of my head to the point of pain. I wear a Koden now which see,s to fit me much better.
