Hi everyone, I have just bought a VX 220 and thought I'd say hello. I don't know much about these cars but enjoyed the test drive (cross country B road with roof in boot) so much that I couldn't say no...

I'm picking it up in a couple of weeks time. I'll be using this as a second car during the summer only.

It's the first rwd / mid-engined car I have owned and very different to the Scooby's and 4wd Golfs I have owned previously and I am really looking forward to getting to know the model and learning how to drive it properly.

Hi Steve,

a 2.2 n/a.  First reg'd on 01 09 03.  Sold to me as totally standard bar an induction kit.  Pics attached.  Current Reg # C4 DBT but this is staying with the previous owner so it will revert to KY53 GDO.  Mileage is 43,500.  There are more pics in a different Newbie thread.  I have put 300 miles on it in the last 2 days!

Does  anyone out there know of any specialists in Northern Ireland / Ireland that can look after these?  I have plans for this car but I really need someone who knows what they are doing to help me out.

I also have very limited history - it has been serviced by:

Grant and McAllin Ltd in Sheffield;

Martwell in Southampton;

WatkinsTune in Shrewsbury; and

SLM Vauxhall in Tunbridge Wells

But it is HPI clear and the mileage, service history and MOT history all seem to add up.  Would love to hear from anyone else that knows the car and any prior history - good or bad.  I intend to keep this for a long time...

I really didn't mean to buy this.  I took it for a proper test drive (thanks David!) and loved it.  My other half didn't.  But she took it out on Fri evening and loved it....

Previous cars - 2002 VW Golf V6 4motion (my daily driver, owned for last 9 yrs and no rattles anywhere!); 2006 Subaru WRX STI, 2005 Subaru WRX, 1987 Porsche 944 Turbo, 1969 2.2 Porsche 911, 1990 Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI, a myriad of VW Golfs, a VW 1600 Fastback, 2 Lancia Betas and a Rover SDI Vitesse.  And various 7 seater's for family use.

Last bike owned was a Kawasaki GPX 650R - in 1992, I think.

Hi Roy

Welcome to the club

I'd suggest Momentum Motorsport in Lisburn, they've worked on VX220's in the past and have a number of Elises themselves.

Health to enjoy

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve,

that's what I thought too.  They have too many race / special builds on at the moment and have closed the workshop to the public for 10 / 12 weeks while they get through the backlog...I spoke to them just last week.

I need to fit a new shock to get through the MOT - but I'm replacing all 4.  I would like someone to check the hub carrier bolts, the rear tie rod ends and engine to servo brake vacuum pipe to make sure there's nothing catastrophic lurking.

I think I'll try Terry McEvoy in Carryduff.  He's more of a VAG / Porsche man, but he might have a look.

Regards

Roy
