I had track day cover when I wrote my VX off on track. They picked my car up from the circuit, transported it home for me, arranged an assesor, and paid out a reasonable settlement. All in all I'd say well worth it. Not so bad on kits though as the parts are cheaper and easier to replace. Track policies have a decent excess attached so it's weighing up the risk. I personally don't insure the Caterham but that is a race car and race excess is even higher so it makes sense for me to take it on the chin after an incident. Plus I have a trailer and winch etc. so I would be able to to get it home myself after a crash.
