If I wanted to get the aluminum cap off the fuel cap, is it really necessary to take the lock mechanism out as per Mark's guide here:

Can't the ali bit be prized off the rest of the cap with the lock etc in situ?

Actually sod it. Took the lock mechanism out anyway (remembering to leave the key in!!) but there's no way the ally section is coming off..

I warmed mine up in the oven then put it in the hydraulic press and it gently came out. Left the lock in.
