Made a post on here 4 years ago saying i was looking into a VX220 but i never got one in the end i got a Dax Rush ZX12R

Im now drawn back to the vx220 turbo option as a weekend/track car idea.

Dax is for sale at current so just looking at whats on the market.

SC car also an option for a track/weekend toy ?

I would say buy from an enthusiast if you can as it will usually come with a good history of being well maintained and will be known to the community.

A random car on autotrader that nobody knows about is more of a risk.

These cars are getting to the age now where things can start going wrong.

Supercharged, much smoother power delivery and in my opinion the only option for track.

Didnt really know the SC was an option tbh on these. I would be open to SC as well as turbo TBH.

I would just need to educate myself on the engine requirements for reliability etc.

I think you'll have to be prepared to be a heck of a lot more hands on with the SC as its not an OE model. There always seems to be some level of tinkering and fettling to keep them running properly. Which is fine if you like that kind of thing.

Personally I just want to drive it and it not break.

No interest in tinkering so I got a turbo.

Think you will find that's because you can tinker and play with maps etc - idle hands and all that.

I'm not sure that's true, Vocky (and others) have rebuild dozens of Z22SE (NA/SC) VX220 engines, whereas I see a lot less Z20LET (the TC'ed engine) being rebuilt.

Also, a few SC'ed Z22SE engines have become heavy oil burners. Their rings are not spec'ed for boost and are thin to reduce frictional loses.

I'm not anti SC'ed car by any means, in fact I think they're great, however the Z20LET is a more robust factory engine in my observation over the last 10 years.

I agree though that a lot of tuned TC'ed cars have very poor power delivery, but that can easily be remedied by getting the correct remap or a stand alone ECU.
