As I'm booked in at the National. So, I thought I'd have a look at some VX Youtube Vids as it will be the first time I will be driving any manual car since my VX expired on track in 2015. BOT is getting it ship shape again with help from Vocky (thanks Neil!)

Anyway, I found all the usual bunch of VX trackers vids on Youtube, all of you have greatly improved since I last drove my VX in 2015. However, the person that I was most impressed with, was Elliot Firth, I don't know him personally, his later vids are the best. But, Goodness me, awesome, smooth, relaxed, controlled, confident, Good hands, feet, braking, balance....... I may have to don my novice sticker at the National. That's how a VX should be driven on track guys! Watch & learn...

Those of us who hide behind big BHP cars (me included!) & or with expensive fancy setup's should feel suitably shamed. It just goes to show how basic track car driving skills, experience & tuition are by far the most important ingredients & should be high on the list of any wannabe tracker.

Yup, Firthy is a superb driver. The fact he only went to SC when he could eek out no more performance from his NA is definitely the way that it should be done. Not sure if hes down for the National?

Cracking guy and oodles of talent. It was a pleasure watching him doing some sprinting at Snett in challenging conditions.

Agreed. Hes spent a long time setting up his vx to drive how he wants it (with input from Hoffmans I think) but crucially hes spent just as much time driving it and it really shows.

I stumbled across this Elise video when I needed to learn Bedford. He's a great driver shows the benefit of being as relaxed as possible:

I learnt a lot from that session and a lot of boils down to what Max described about Firthy... be smoooooth with it all. Throttle, steering and brakes all need to be smooth/progressive to get the car up on its toes and hold it there. “Treat it like a good woman, caress it..” was good advice.

Also, focussing on the whole corner, building it up through the corner and maximising exit speed and not entry speed was a key take away.

Finally .. my tyres were sh*t :)

Federal RSR 595 - not up to AO48 levels of grip, but for the money they're great...and they work in the wet.

Federal RSR's. To be fair, they're pretty good for what they cost and the pressures were probably on the high side (28-30 hot).

Elliot F, is by far the better, faster driver. Going sideways, still requires experience & good splattering of skill, but it is just so unnecessary & not particularly quick. It would annoy me if I was following him...

It may be useful to have a new thread just devoted to good basic tips, pointers & practices on how to improve your track driving skills? I've seen lots on various track day videos where the driver could have done with some pointers! I'm sure there are many on here that could pass on some really useful information!!!
