I'm sure you're right!

Except it seems like, every year for the past 2 - 3 years, car keeps going into limp mode, or turbo goes on strike, etc. etc.

Unplug MAF, problem goes

New MAF

New year - repeat  :ffs:

Update

Sprayed MAF liberally with this: Wynns Petrol EGR Cleaner

MAF in air intake hose, but unplugged from electrics (and air filter side)

Engine kept idling at ~ 1500rpm

Short bursts of spray to prevent stalling; basically following instructions on can

Well it's only been 48hrs

But...

Finger crossed..

We have liftoff  :jump:

I'd venture to say: better than back to normal!

Chicken count yet to start

I do have an Astra H VXR K04 Turbo fitted however.

Perhaps you have a wiring fault leading to the MAF? Try bending the loom feed around with the old "bad" MAF in and see if fixes the problem, also trying inspecting/cleaning the plug as that might be causing a fault.

I get an engine warning light when MAF is unplugged, but none when just misbevaing.

I won't get one with wiring fault?

Will try the wrap around  thumbsup

Cleaning the plug was where I started

Cleaned the infamous contacts behind rear wheel arch........
