A good friend and fellow VXer has an Excel in 'not pristine' condition with 16k on the clock that I'm contemplating as a project car.

It only needs everything, but I'm BUSTING for a project car since I finished the Exige and the VXT is now too good to touch (except for the paintwork)...

I'm inspired by this...

Oooooft, do it! I had an Excel when I was young(er) and stupid(er). It was class. Exhaust fell off, carbs leaked fuel 98% of the time, and someone broke into the boot to steal the battery. Miss that thing. Would have been ace with a nice V8 in it...

.... you did look at all the pictures right ?

What you said pretty much sounds like the sales brochure lotus probably produced for it.

They do scream out for a wilder look though dont they. There was a light weight Sprint version of the narrow arch Eclat Excel that was nice, I rarely see a tastefully modded one of these.

Mine had a dash that was 3/4 the size it should have been, cos of heat shrink in the sun. Plus patchy "leather" and scruffy trim meant my old one was a pretty grim place to be. Its a Lotus though, has flick up lights, and was made when the Big Man was still in charge. Where do I sign?

Might be worth you having a look through some of the threads on here. Nice valuable cars when sorted

It's strange, when I was vaguely looking at buying a new car some 25 years ago I thought they looked boxy and unwieldy, but they look quite appealing now.

They still don't do anything for me in standard form, but hunkered down on decent wheels they look cool enough for Ed Straker to commute to work in :)
