Could someone point me in the direction of where the engine coolant sensor is located on the Turbo?

And ideally also the part number for it / link to a good source ideally ebay or similar as it needs shipping to Sweden.
Is the sensor the one with the brass colored nut just below the bracket / torx bolt that is in the middle of the pic?

Picture is of the gearbox side of the engine so you can see the coil pack connector .etc

Thanks!

There is also a separate sensor in the right hand radiator hose that sends the temperature to the dash stack.

The never ending story of the mysterious second sensor that some claim exists and some claim doesn't exists continues :) I have personally only seen the one by the engine as in Glitch's photo. Could it depend on the car's model year?

In the TIS one can read in the component index that there are two sensors; B12 and B61 where the latter says (gauge).

But when looking at the files for both engines separately I can only see that B12 is for the 2.2 engine and B61 is for the 2.0 engine. B61 is the one shown in Glitch's photo.

I can nowhere find a second sensor in the wiring diagrams, neither for the 2.2 nor the 2.0 engine. On the other hand wiring diagrams can be wrong.

It would be nice if someone, once and for all, could give a definite answer to this question :)

Johnboyhgt, do you have a photo of that second sensor? Then I could have a look and see if I have it as well. What model year is your car? Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

sadly i don't have a pic as I no longer have a tubby (SC for the win)

It is there and i have seen it on my 2003 tubby. best way is to remove the right hand wheel and look where the cross alloy brace crosses the bulkhead, where the lower arm front mount is bolted to this just above is where the sensor fits.

Its screwed into a plastic sleeve arrangement in the lower rad hose and the sensor sits horizontal pointing towards the back of the car.

The one controlling the stack is located in the hose that connects to the pipe travelling to the radiator from the rear. Follow the large hose traveling from the thermostat all the way down to the bottom of the bulkhead. Just before it dissappears to go through the side rails it's there with 2 wires. Regarding the second sensor, have a flick through this thread - http://www.vx220.org...ensor-location/

Finally had a look at my car and there is no sensor in the area you describe, so I take it my car only uses one sensor :) Probably as described in this post here: http://www.vx220.org...ails/?p=1958742

"Coolant temperature is transmitted using a PWM signal from the ECU.
ECU has a coolant temperature sensor/NTC (B61) that connects on pin 38: https://www.speedste... Z20LET - 1.pdf

It processes the data and connects via X3 to the dash pin A6, just like the Z22SE: https://www.speedste...m/Instument.pdf

Both the Motronic (Z20LET) as the Multec (Z22SE) do it this way. AFAIK there's no difference in this respect.

Alternative circuit here: https://arc.seloc.or...ge=2#pid5242375

Or you can implement it probably with an Arduino or even (severe overkill) a Pi to generate the correct PWM signal from an NTC sensor input.

Bye, Arno."

Will it come off (sensibly) without taking off the metal plate above it?
