it's perfectly legal to bring them over in hand luggage, just delare them at customs and pay the import fee. No shipping cost, no import duty on the shipping cost and no further postage costs

Yup. Depending on exchange it comes out about 1750. If I go fetch it because I'm in the US for work then it's a great situation.

What $ exchange rate do you expect when you're travelling there??
 

Today that's 1958 GBP, no shipping costs, + 20% VAT and not sure how much import duty they put on car parts in the UK...

I used the exchange I had a few months back, I'd wait until it was favourable and get the guys in the US to stash it away for me. Import duty and vat can be addressed.

I'd be interested in a used one if the price was right.
