Have just been told that reverse light failure is an MOT failure now. Anyone else confirm this? I ask because mine isn't working!

Yes, it will fail on this now. Is it just a gearbox switch needed?

normally the end of the switch wears away and this stops the switch from working when installed, fit a thinner gasket washer and it might start working again

Don't buy the switch from Vauxhall, something like £19....only a few quid on Ebay.

When mine stopped working the contacts just needed a good clean and a squirt of ACF50, been working fine since.

Same here. Took the thing out, emptied it for gear oil (after having over filled last year), filled it with WD40, and it’s worked fine since.

Reversing lights only needed for cars after 2009 so no need to worry about it :D

Below is a link to the current MOT bible, just to confirm, reverse lights are now part of the MOT for any car registered from 1st September 2009 (59 Plate onwards),

So that's confirmed - doesn't apply to the VX220. Mine works anyway but..

To be honest; MOT fail or not, who would want a light out on a car that often doesn't get seen at the best of times?

(Some twunt reversed into mine a few weeks ago and just drove off, despite me parking it with the side lights on in the day light :()
