Chris, Ive got a gearbox, which has been fully rebuilt by Competition transmission services, I had two done at the same time. The thing is, I genuinely can't remember if it's a 4.17 with the bell housing changed or if it's standard final drive as all paperwork has long since gone. It's never been used. I'm sure it is but can't be sure. Is there an easy way to tell? Just remember, I'm mechanically challenged, so nothing technical please.

It isn't a 4.17 based on that AW code IIRC unless you've had it reworked since

I'm sure the housing was replaced. What is the AW code? Is that the stamp on the housing?

yeah remember our discussion (although this was 2016)?  you can faintly see AW on the main gearbox casing.  That's why I had to return it to you unfortunately.

going back a bit now in my memory but AW was an odd code for this GB but Vauxhall confirmed to me at the time that the AW GB. does not have a 4.17 FD.  I think some Zafira's were fitted with this GB but never a VX220

I had a standard box originally & purchased a 4.17 final drive from Courtenay after the box needed rebuilding (selector forks), Which was fitted to my standard box. I also bought what I thought was a zifira box and I think Neil swapped over the housings for me. It was a while back. Anyway, I don't want to sell it if I don't know what it is regardless of what is stamped on the housing.

If you remember, I bought your GB then spotted that it had AW on the side before I was going to fit it and so had to return it. I spoke to the GB people you used to refurbish it and they hadn't put a 4.17 drive in it either.

AQ is also a 4.17 zaf gearbox

 

AW is an Astra 3.95 box

if you buy a XY Signum gearbox you will need to replace the bellhousing because it is for the dual mass flywheel and the slave cylinder sits too far away from the clutch with a z22se clutch/flywheel
