Did have a set of second hand stage 2 cams sorted, but that might have fallen through (waiting to hear)

As a plan b I’ve been looking at options and there seem to be 2 choices.

Direct from comp cams (113300) in the pic below, which work out at £560 delivered in the UK

Or stage 2 set from ZZP (appear to be the same cams) for £700.

The difference seems to be that the ZZP cams have a machined slot for the z22se pulleys so timing and set up is easy.

So two questions:

There seems to be mixed feedback on how well the ZZP slot is timed so it isn’t just a straight fit. How have others got on with this? Are they plug and play timing wise?

I’m I missing something with my prices - direct from compcams seemed cheaper than expected (4.5% duty, 20% vat)

Option 3 is to leave my piper stage 1 cams in - but it’s all coming apart anyway so might as well upgrade!!

Picked up a few posts that when set up using the slots the timing is slightly off - but not seen it myself...
Assume yours are just set up using the lugs and slots in the standard pulleys

Great - that’s what I heard. So no advantage of the zpp cams over the ones direct from comp cams

BTW - how did you time them? Do you set the engine at TDC and set the timing by measuring to a set valve opening? Or do you fully degree the engine to no1 cylinder fully closed?

Could do with a beginners guide if there is one...

The ZZP stage 2 LSJ cams are not the same as the COMP Cams "stage 2 Blower" cams! (Check the cam grind numbers.) The ZZP cams are 2 long cams (for the LSJ exh cam sensor) and the normal Comp set has 1 short exhaust cam

To the timing; Comp cams' timing was notorious off when fitted with the standard slot in the Z22SE (or LSJ) sprockets, so ZZP checks the timing of their sets. (and the actual measured timing when fitted with standard slots is written on the boxes.)

But as said, with the Saab keyless sprockets you can time these infinetely, only setting up with dial calipers is time consuming...

Thanks,

I saw the grind number issue and the ZZP stage 2 seem to match up to the grind numbers for comp cams 113300 rather than the blower cams.

From the above, do both sets fit ok and do the timing slots for the LSJ cams end up in the right place or are the Saab sprockets needed?

Still confused about which are the right cams and if they can be timed with the normal pulley....

ZZP's Stage 2's are a mix of the standard Comp sets.
Chill posted an overview of the various Comp grinds a while ago.

"The Right Cams" for what? They all can be slotted in with the standard sprockets, but then it's possible that the timing is a bit off spec. (I have ZZP Stage 2's in my 2.0 LSJ on standard sprockets and that is running pretty good.)

See topic here: http://www.vx220.org...aab-conversion/

From that topic:

ZZP LSJ Stage 2:  Ecotec intake 8758, Ecotec exhaust 8759

ZZP LSJ Stage 2:

Intake 251, lift .423
Exhaust 256, lift .419

Comp L61 Blower cam kit: ("stage2" ?)

intake 252, lift .423
exhaust 262, lift .436

Ok that helps...

By “the right cams” I mean what do people buy for stage 2 cams on ITB builds on a 2.2 z22se.... still a bit confused on this - ZZP st2 or direct from compcams....

Ehhh, the ZZP LSJ cams and the Comp blower cams are optimized for Supercharger use. For ITB's you better check in the forum section what people run on their ITB 2.2's

zzp are supercharger cams for the Saab head - two long cams. But you can cut the exhaust cam down, just like GM did.

for ITBs stage 2 or 3 CompCams are best (or CatCams), however blower cams are just a stage 1 and a stage 2 cam, so would work okay

Brill - I’m assuming comp cams stage 2 are part number 113300 above which have 216 and 218 duration at 50 thou

also worth mentioning that stage 3 cams need supertech valve springs and retainers - due to spring compression

stage 2 are fine with Dbilas and 7800 rpm

the last set I purchased had quite expensive shipping costs, so if they send them via a cheaper company it will save you loads

They quoted $65 shipping - I can see an increase in that will make a huge difference!!
