Does anyone have experience with aftermarket wireless TPMS monitor systems. I'm looking to get something for testing sessions in the Caterham to keep an eye on pressures. Not looking for anything too expensive as I don't need it to be massively accurate and will rarely use it (regulations prevent it's use in racing). Something like this;

In the context of tracking the Vx...

Any issues with wheel balance?
Any longer to remove the sensors than a normal dust cap when dumping / filling air?

There is a small nut under the sensor, you have to spin that down the thread a little to add air. It is there to stop the sensor unthreading itself. Then retighten with a little spanner. After the first time I got rid of them and have not lost any.

 

I dont think they are most accurate but think would be good for seeing your pressure while on track rather than after cooling down on the way to the pits.

 

Id guess the sensors weigh about 20g not sure if that would be enough to cause a balance problem.

I'm under the impression that my rear tyres get overinflated during the last half of a race as I start to lose traction a bit more. Unfortunately when the race is finished and I've sat in Parc Ferme for a while they have had chance to cool down before I can test them. It's not so important to me that it reads 2 psi under or over the actual pressures just more the difference between cold tyres and hot ones I'm interested in. I have a feeling I should drop my rear cold pressures but I don't want to compromise a race by getting things wrong without testing it when point aren't at stake. I think I'm going to get the one Tony has linked, I will report back.

Bought one from eBay and installed it on my Insignia. Compared the readings to the factory installed internal TPMS and it's exactly 1 PSI out on each corner both cold and hot so I'm pleased with that. At Croft on Wednesday so will give it a proper test there

Steve, please update after Croft. If possible can you do a manual gauge test as well to see how accurate the display is compared to a good hand held pressure gauge.

So a quick update.

 

Really impressive bit of kit with no Wheel balancing problems at all. It shows pressure and temperature and compared to a draper manual gauge was consistently within 1 PSI (TMPS read lower than manual one). Nice clear screen with solar charging, it updates the display every couple of seconds and sounds a tone if it goes below minimum or above maximum level (which is configurable, 15psi and 23psi respectively for me).

 

For under £30 it was an absolute bargain and does the job I wanted it for, highly recommended.

Steve - Yes they do just screw in place of the dust caps. Just been looking through my series regs and found this;

 

"Tyre pressure and temperature monitoring devices: “Tyresure” or any alternative may be fitted."
