Alternator Removal. Help?

I don’t know if I’m missing something, or my car’s somehow different for some reason, but my next move would be to remove the engine mount to get access and enable removal. But I haven’t noticed anyone else on here having to do that so I may well have just got it wrong.
Could anyone that’s done this shed any light please?

Only way I could get it out was to unbolt the evap canister and shift it forward. That gives you the room. Engine mount can stay

As above, unbolt the black evap canister and push out the way (no need to remove any hoses) and then it only just fits through this gap. You could also remove the engine mount if you feel restricted and / or the SC.
The issue is the additional idler pulley which severely restricts access. I had to undo the 2 bolts closer to the block from bolt (fiddly) from underneath, then remove the two longer bolts with the idler pulley. I then rotated it forward and placed it with the pulley down so that I could remove the battery feed. Installation was essentially the reverse process.
Awkward job as you need to pretty much insert yourself into the wheel arch, unless you've got a small 10yr old child slave, and I didn't have one of those handy.

I’m not there right now so can’t see it but what is the evap canister? I can see that removing the engine mount could help.

Thanks chaps. I’ve got it unbolted and wires off an been trying to get it through the gap into the wheel arch in various orientations but it seems too large.

The EVAP canister is the tall black thing bolted to the bracket attached to the chassis. There is a 10mm bolt holding it at the bottom (slightly awkward) which is removed, will allow you to shift it to the right a little, just enough to get the alternator oot..
