A serious question, If you had to choose, funding aside which would you consider the better vehicle to own, run and live with, comparing say a 1.6 or 1.8 supercharged Elise v A Turbo or SC VX?

I used to own a 111R and the VX is subjectively far better in my view.

lotus if its a daily, vx 2.2 if its a weekend/track car

A decent SC is faster for sure. No doubt.
But as an all round package, air con, heating, comfort, noise, etc then Elise.

I do have to pedal my Elise to have even half a hope of keeping up with Stage2 SC vx. Anything above that, forget it

Oh and forget the 1.6 Elise... dear god... 134bhp.

I would go new Elise S. The only real benefits to an older car are that it's cheaper and current brexit market aside you won't have depreciation to deal with. A new Elise will cost you 10k in the first year but stay stable after 3.

what is your budget ?

 

comparing similar valued cars: a cheap elise will probably need some money spending on it, whereas a similar priced vx220 should be in good order

An Elise 250 CUP perhaps if money was no object (but then I'd prob buy an early Exige S V6).

 

Other than that, a nice VX SC with some refurb work (brakes / suspension).. Other than slightly better build, I dunno what else any of the newer Lotus variants get you - chuck some cash at some Lotus wheels, ABS and suspension and it does the same thing really..

vx220 is just asking for trouble due to the age and lack of parts 

 

yes there are people trying to keep these cars going but its just silly money to keep them running 

and the new exiges are more than up to the pace of modified vx220s

Sounds like some wise advise, been looking at some 2017/2016 low mile examples, twice the price of a sound low mile VX but £10/15k lower than brand new,if depreciation is minimal from thereon subject to not thrashing the life out of it! may well be cheaper to own and run than a VX. If that makes sense based on recouping your money if you want to bale out. A relatively new Elise with its ongoing developments has to be better than anything that was developed some two decades ago but what you do miss out on is the uniqueness of the VX, only c 2000 Uk builds and numbers dropping each year, which I would say has a real value that only comes with rarity. Shame it wasn't about when they filmed Back to the Future (those Delorean's are really crap) 😂
