I have an amp to mount on the back of the tub in the nomal spot behind the passenger seat. Was thinking to use rivnuts to ensure it doesn’t move or rattle. Obviously care would be needed, but how far can you drill through before potentially hitting the fuel tank? Or is this crazy idea best forgotten?

Heaps is space. Just don’t keep drilling after drilling through the alloy panel

Why not avoid the whole issue and bond bighead fasteners to the bulkhead instead?

Didn’t think of using bigheads so both are potential options then, thanks guys.

Make sure you use aluminium rivnuts if you do.

Before drilling, beware. There is little clearance, and a wiring loom running right behind that area. Remove the fuel pump housing cover for a peek!

Why not buy some HD velcro from Halfords. It's so strong and there is little to no chance of it falling off. I know it sounds silly but that stuff is really good and then your modification is completely reversible.

It's surprising just how much air-born crap gets in the cabin to allow electrolysis to build up. Last week I had a bad connection on a dashboard switch, when I took it out to inspect the connector, it had quite a bit of fuzz on it and needed cleaning.It was showing about 5k ohms of resistance (which is how I isolated it) and after it was just 0.2 Ohm. Just goes to show that it can occur in seemingly unlikely places, so is worth considering.

fuzz =/ electrolysis

lotus nerds get way too preoccupied with these things. and as i said, even then, just use zinc rivnuts :mellow:

fuzz =/ electrolysis

How can you know that Ed, as I haven't explained the setup?  As it happens the (ferrous) switch was earthed and taking a 12 amp current though it, and it was mounted on a home made aluminium dash plate (which is also earthed). I'd suspect that the fuzz was electrically induced for a couple of reasons.

Drawing a current across a galvanic couple will certainly accelerate corrosion. I don't believe it's an indication of what will happen with a potential of 0 across the couple though (such as the bulkhead)

Just use Velcro, holes and screws are complete overkill.
And you'll need less than you think.

I'd happily attach stuff to the outside of the car with the HD velcro. It's solid and won't move.
