So i thought it would be a good idea to use RainX on my windscreen a while ago - seemed fine at first when it was actually raining. Wipers cleared the screen ok.

However in the dry when you have just got some dirt on the screen and you want to wiper it off the results were awful - such bad smearing that I had to pull over and clean it off by hand :-(

So I cleaned the windscreen with 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water to remove the RainX coating - however I'm still getting bad smearing.

Had a go at cleaning the wiper blade itself today in case this helps - seemed ok after when using the wipers stationary and pouring water on the windscreen to simulate rain - but until I try again when dry and driving its hard to tell if ive fixed it....

Is RainX hard to remove ?

might I have contaminated the wipers blades ?

Unless wipers blades start to smear when they get old (although not seen this before)

Thoughts, advice ?

Ta.

Could just be the blade if its old, or the spring not strong enough it misses/smears in the middle of the screen. I have used Rainx several times on many different cars and not had any issues. It normally only lasts a few weeks before the effects ware off.

You’ll need to re-apply it, every few weeks. Try to avoid using wipers to make it last longer. If you don’t re-apply you’ll eventually start getting black residue from the wiper blade on your windscreen.

Rain x took an age to remove from my screen despite using solvents etc to get it off. It works great if you top it up all the time but is a pain in the ass when it starts to wear off.
Clean the screen a few more times and give it a few weeks and you should be ok.

I never could get Rain-X to work properly. Great idea, though, especially for cars like ours. Anyone tried the new nano technology products?

I use Rain x and have no issues. Don't follow the instructions though as I just squirt it on the screen and spread it with a cloth, leave it 2 minutes max, then polish with a clean cloth and it works superb, the rain just beads off.

It’s a well known issue on the standard set up of the VX.

Simple cure it to retrofit a Master Van (or similar) blade with a spray bar which is then vacuumed to your screen washer pump. Lots of info on here on how to do it.
