Decided to buy a piece of British motoring history.

As my dad was a miner and had one, I have a soft spot for these iconic if a little ghastly cars.

 

 

Anyone else have a guilty motoring secret ?

Yep, Bond Bug 750ES

Was my first car at 17, cost me £365 iirc and great fun. Mint ones now going for circa £10k.
Sold it nearly 3 years later for a Ginetta G15 then a Clan Crusader. Always been into plastic pigs it seems 😄😄

I once bought a Morris Marina estate as a run around whilst my Opel Manta GTE was getting painted

 

I absolutely loved it, never locked it, left the windows open, parked it anywhere and it was two weeks of total fun

 

And the bonus was it drank oil like it was petrol, so the five gallons of old engine oil I had not got around to taking to the dump was consumed in the two weeks

Yeeesss, well, drove one once, that was enough thanks!!  One word, check the steering box, or more accurately the bit of angle iron to which it is bolted as that has a habit of breaking off.   The steering is bad enough without total disconnection...…………..!!!

Why didn't they put two wheels at the front and one at the back? Inherently more stable.

I suppose then it just would have been a sh*t ugly car and nothing interesting about it.

ps: The Reliant Robin was a three wheeler so that it could be driven with a full motorcycle licence, the four wheeler required a car licence to drive

As for power units Jon, the original engine is there just with a blown head gasket.
The guy has all the gaskets to fix it. So initially it's a fix up job, if I like the experience then I will probably go with a 1000cc bike engine.

If it's a fix and sell then the profit obviously goes to more VX parts. Win win.
