Sure its serious for an £11k vxt with minor work required 
Best advice is look at what's about near your budget and weigh up if it can work. Be careful of the cost of repairs if your not able to do a lot your self and parts are creeping up also
Better to spend a bit more on the right example than buy a dog and have a money pit

Did a 2006 hpi clear vxt with 17k miles sell a few months back on ebay for 13.8k?
