Hello VXers,

Has anyone tried to fit a more powerful cc pump than the Bosch pca.... I read that flow is important in the system and wonder if anyone has experimented with a pierberg cwa 50?

Flow rate of the Bosch is 1200 l/HR 20 l/min zero pressure.... reality 7litre per min
CWA 50 Flow rate: 25 l/min @ 0.53bar / 35 l/min @ 0.25bar

Given that the water barely gets luke warm do you need anything else?

True but the faster the cooler water flows through the laminovas the better surely, looking at other threads pipe ID back pressure are all critical elements but having a good pump is also key.... as I can't change the others elements and I want a better pump thought it was a no brainer to go for something more powerful..... Could be talking complete rubbish of course

From the ZZP website...

By running the dual pass endplate, which runs 2 cores in parallel, the coolant flow rate is increased by 40%. This provides additional gains. The gains of higher coolant flow have been backed up by our supercharger dyno. We measured continued intercooler performance as flow increased. Gains did approach diminishing returns but there was a measured gain from 4 to 6 GPM.

6 US gallon per minute is 22 litres per minute?

Under the pressure of the system with 19mm lines from what I have read the pump flow of the PCA (in video above) is nowhere near 20 litres more like 7 so in theory well under the efficiency range if I'm correct... I may well be wrong though.

Hence most race cars moving to Davis Craig or EWP to get the flow

V tempted to try a Pierburg CWA100.... from Seloc

I use a Pierburg CWA 100 pump which flow very good compared to the old Bosch pump that usually used in charge cooler systems. The important thing is that the pump keep up the flow when the pressure increases. AMG use CWA 100 pump. It's also fitted to the Mustang GT500. If you want the ultimate charge cooler pump you should buy EMP WP29 pump.

Looking at a thread on seloc randy said that

"Flow rate on a pro-alloy system with a 4-pass CC unit with a bosch is 18ltr/min. I would expect slightly less on a link-up system because of the capillary area reduction by going twin-pass across a single core."

18 litres is 4.7 gallons so potentially room for improvement if the zzp numbers are correct

there are several different sized CC pumps fitted to vx220sc conversions,

A small Bosch pump, the LSJ oem pump and an even bigger pump. It really depends on who did the SC conversion or which pump came with the SC kit or what was available at the time.

For a track car a better flowing pump will not do any harm.
