I don't think this really deserves the discussion it's getting. Firstly there are a lot of companies that sell their own branded oil. This doesn't mean they make it. For example Halfords sell their own oil but just contract a blending company to make it for them. Amazon are doing exactly the same. They didn't design it and they're not making it. It will use an existing 'market general' technology that my company or one of the three competitors sell to anyone who wants to offer a product with that specification.

What oil marketers are very good at is marketing and distributing oil, by selling their own brand oil, Amazon can utilise the might of their distribution model. That is all they are doing. They are not researching or testing oils to bring this out, they're simply packaging an existing product with their own labels.

Finally, the self service market is shrinking - they'e getting into a market that is dying out with a product that everyone else has. It's not a disruptive model.

Put it there knowing Fez would answer!

Not for one minute did I imagine them making it, much like you say Halfords et al.

I imagine with their buying power prices would be reasonable if you use that sort of oil. Certainly not the second coming with regards to oil quality though, just more of the same.
