This weekend I'm going to take my broken GAZ gold rubbish off the car and replace with Monos.
What would anyone running Monos recommend as the ideal height and damping for UK roads please?

I think that depends on spring rates. You will find them much more controlled and yet more supple at the same time

Feel free to fiddle. I do track days and wind them up too a couple of clicks from maximum on track but this makes it in drivable on the road. I always reset them differently when I get back on the road. I usually don’t adjust more than 1 click at a time either front or rear. If you start somewhere in the middle then you won’t be far of and can go from there. But you are talking about preference and not necessarily an absolutely correct set up. It’s down to what feel you like

too hard on the front and you should notice the front braking worse

some tracks like Castle Combe you might want to have less bump resistance

When you say Monos do you mean Gold Pros?

I can't see others listed for Vx but see Monos mentioned here

Defiantly VX specific Gaz Mono. Not golds.

I generally ran my Gaz Monos -6 front -8 rear. Sometimes I would soften them for the road but generally that worked most places.

My springs were 550 and 450.

My set up was stiffer at the front as I was informed that meant the front where you wanted it to be and then rear dug in. Didn't seem right when it was first done as my brain was saying heavier rear end stiffer at the rear but, it worked really well. Many who drove my car said it felt great.

Hi Martin,

I have these shocks with the same spring rates as you and have changed a few times to try and get right.  When you say -6 and -8, are you starting with the hardest setting and clicking to softer?

I think the front end of my car is too hard and the front brakes are awful - although I hadn't realised that the shock setting would affect this (thanks Sizten).  And my car isn't tracked.

I also can't work out how to adjust the ride height on these.  Does anyone know how to do that?  The car is in bits and shocks are on the bench so now is the time to re-set these...

And maybe I don't need to re-furb the front calipers, although they are out and on the bench too.

Kind regards

Roy

I've put the fronts on today and set them at 5 basically half way. I kept the ride height the same as the previous set up. Adjusted via the collars and used a steel ruler to measure from the collar top to the top of the shock. Currently on 122mm from top of adjustment collar to the top of the unit. I'm on 17 inch Europa S wheels.
I still need to swap out the rears but the weather closed in and my gagrge is full of car parts so no room to work.
Took it for a blast and finally no crashy bumpy ride. Smooth over the bumps at last!

450/550 is too hard for only road use. If you are tracking the car then they are s good compromise, but you said you weren’t. I had those rates. I’ve now switched to 350/450 and the road performance is much better. If I wind the dampers to near maximum stiffness then I retain most of the feel I previously had on track. Although it’s always important to remember that it’s your springs which hold you up and your dampers than slow down the movement of those springs in both directions. The classics Litus setup was light springs heavy dampers and this gives the compliant and well controlled rude that Lotys are famous for. Trackbuse nesses thatbup but firc100% Road use id be looking at going in that direction

I have softer spring set up now, just need to fit the rears. The test run with just the fronts done highlighted how bad my rear set up is for road use.It was definitely set up for track use before and was unbearable on anything short of smooth tarmac.

I run 300/400 for road use only on Gaz golds and the ride is much better than the 375/450 previously used.
I would say anything over 350 is too stiff at the front for use on British roads. The rear is less sensitive due to the higher loads.
