I am looking for a set of winter wheels for my newly purchased Speedster Turbo, so it is more fit for fight for my daily commute.
Orignal wheels are:
Front: 5,5Jx17 ET26
Rear: 7,5Jx17 ET36
A set of new rims are not easy to find (as impossible so far) in the original dimensions, and so far no luck on second hand market (and selection of winter tires to fit the front rims are about non-existing).
My best bet so far is a set of 6,5Jx16 ET35, on which I could fit 195/55R16 to the front and 205/55R16 to the rear, both within 1% of original tire size.
I have no doubt that the rear wheels will fit, but I wonder if the inner side of the front wheels will be an issue when turning, as the inner edge of the tires will be 19mm closer to center of the car (outer edge will match original to a single mm). I can see some folks have mounted massive wheels, but I am not sure whether that would require extending the inner wheel arch?
Also, I am in doubt that the changed tire geometry (especially the width of the front tires) will affect handling in a too negative way? Is it strictly required that the rears are quite wider than the front, or should I be ok? I am not planning to drive like crazy in the cold months.
Thanks in advance, -hope I can use some of your great insight ;o)
