Positively dangerous. The UK is really bad for drivers who deliberately accelerate when you overtake. My father used to call it the British Disease because they don't do it on the continent. Someone does it to me at least once a week. If there is an override switch I suspect many drivers will just switch it off. Driving is inherently dangerous because human judgment is fallible, but in the UK we have the safest roads in Europe. There comes a point where efforts to decrease accidents and deaths have to be more and more invasive, and I doubt that speed limiters will make much difference. The DOT's own research showed that speed was only a contributory factor in about 7% of accidents.
