If I hadn’t have driven it I would have bought the vx, but then would have always wondered.
No badge snobbery here, couldn’t give a ****. The Elise just drove better, even with less power, or maybe that’s why it drove better. You could certainly tell the difference between them round the corners.

An annual event organised through this forum consisting of a trackday paired with a hotel booking (optional!)
We get together, do the trackday, then talk about the days exploits plus all things VX in the bar/restaurant after.
For many years was at Anglesey but this year is at Bedford.

That’s the one. Nice chap steffen too, will be taking my car to him if it needs anything. Very knowledgeable and you only need to see the cars in his care to know he must be well thought of

Cograts on the purchase. The Elise, is a great car, but a well sorted VX in the suspension department will handle just as well as the Elise, sounds like the one you drove needed some attention.
I seem to remember someone mentioning that the original plan was to start with the 2.2 NA and then supercharge it instead of the turbo, but the 2.2SC wouldn't pass Euro V emissions so they had to stick in the lardy ass, pig iron, peaky horrible 2.0 Turbo instead. The same 2.2SC is in a few American GM cars, so not really an "aftermarket" addition, an extremely tried and tested route.
I have had all three (NA, Turbo & SC) and I have to say the turbo is by far the worst of the three. Mine was a VXR220 and the power delivery is definitely designed for a much heavier more cumbersome car than the VX, not to mention, compared to the NA the balance is shifted too far back because of the lump behind you, making them more tail happy. That, combined with the turbo lag and then sudden boost makes them a bit of a animal, so I guess if you like to live on the edge.... As people have mentioned, maps can smooth this out, but that's all it is, plaster over the cracks
The purest is certainly the NA, and the SC is basically just an NA+100hp. Having owned VXs for the last 10 years however my personal favorite is the SC, all the handling and weight benefits of the NA with it's ali block etc and the power benefits of the tubby, without having to wait for the turbo to spool up and then suddenly being catapulted into the back of that car you were trying to overtake...

It's remarkably how well the SC components fit into the VX engine bay and I've read somewhere that the original mapping/layout of the US SC Ecotec engine was done in the UK (by a Lotus guy)...

The 2.2 ecotec is a Lotus/GM joint venture engine project so that would definitely make sense

So
Why has no one supercharged a VXT?

No off the shelf OEM manifold and no point in changing the turbo to an SC when the turbo packaging fits.
