Look on the bright side - free batteries for life .
Changed it today, wasn't quite as bad as I thought as the old battery had a handle on it. However I had to remove a heater hose, I think my car has a fezzasus heater, perhaps that's why? Made a bit of a mess but wasn't too bad. If the new battery had been any bigger I wouldn't have got it in without removing something else.
For anyone reading this thread who is changing their battery here is some info:-
To remove:-
1. Disconnect the electrical connection and remove the washer bottle.
2. Disconnect the battery terminals.
3. Remove the washer bottle bracket. Note that this acts as a holder for the battery.
4. Remove the heater hose that runs under the windscreen wiper motor from the heater end (You may or may not need to do this)
keep a cloth handy as there is some leakage of water.
5. Remove the black plastic cover that covers the fusebox and windscreen wiper motor.
6. Pull back the wires from the battery terminals and rest them on the edge of the radiator.
7. Remove the battery.
To replace:-
1. Insert the new battery
2. reconnect the battery terminals.
3. replace the washer bottle bracket, make sure to push it tight onto the battery as you tighten the bolts.
4. Replace the heater hose
5. Replace black plastic cover to fuse box
6. Replace and reconnect the washer bottle.
7. Top up the water expansion tank to replace the water lost when you removed the heater hose (if you did that step.
I did manage to cut my finger and bleed profusely, even though my old and new batteries had handles on, so maybe those rubber gloves all mechanics use now would be a good idea.
Thanks to all who posted.
Cheers
