So my vx is fine but I bought a zafira gsi and was ok but developed a boost issue.

Could of been a few things but I thought I would swap the turbo as I have a known working one that I took of my vx after installing vxr unit.

After the swap it seemed to cure the problem but a couple days later it stopped boosting again. Appears to be slightly different symptoms. I ordered new boost control solenoids (one on turbo and one on inlet manifold) and no difference. The turbo has since started to screech a bit? One manifold bolt seemed a bit loose and tightened but scared to over tighten.

Because I havent had it long and my vx has been tinkered a bit I dont even know what it should feel like anymore! But its not right.

Im open to suggestions but their are many suggestions and dont know where to go next / revisit.

I want to take to a garage but dont feel confident in back street garages. So i’m just checking if anyone fancies a troubleshooting afternoon with me lol

   Always good if you can figure out why the first turbo failed when fitting another. Do you know if you have a good oil flow to/from the turbo?? Sounds a bit suspicious if its starting making a noise after a few hours use.

Well I dont actually know if the old turbo did fail...

A friend suggested that and I undone the oil feed and oil started coming out so thought it was ok

can you describe the boost issue

 

No boost? spiky, on then loose boost as the revs climb?

 

Sounds like it may be a leak to vacuum issue? If it makes no boost I would start at the wastegate

Screeching is commonly due to exhaust leak past the manifold gasket which is multilayer metal so if not sealing correctly makes this noise as the gas passes through the thin metal. Bit like when as a kid you placed grass between your thumbs and blow. . . Er that noise lol

or the turbo exhaust manifold is cracked , often its number 3 the shortest section.

So I had a blowing exhaust and got worse because hanger was broken and scraping on my drive way. Driving down dual carraigeway and heard a massive bang and sh*t flying behind it.

Came off accelarator and was expecting it not to work when I went back on and now boosting and centre exhaust silencer ‘exploded’ and blew out the side. So sounds like most zafira gsi s do. So the silencer failed and blocked exhaust hence no boosting. Good news
