So My Vx220 supercharged track car will be going on sale officially on the 1st June with the below advert going on ebay and piston heads but I thought I'd test the waters and offer it on here to you guys first

Up for sale is this very special 2001 Lotus 116 / vx220 / 2.2 supercharged fast road / track / race car.

I bought the car in standard form just over a year  from a member of the vx220 owners club due to it being a good example with extensive history from Courtney sport – the link to the original advert is here http://www.vx220.org.uk/forums/topic/148511-2001-calypso-red-vx220-na/.

When I bought the car I had a vision to convert it into something a bit special for fast road / the track. During the last year I have pretty much achieved this- the car is 95% complete and just needs a little more money spending to finish her off. Although the car was primarily for the track I have retained things such as the abs system, all lights etc to make it easier to be put back on the road if I wanted to.

Below is a list of work that has been done to the car / the spec

New GMS light weight fibreglass 7 piece racing element body kit finished in volks white with black aluminium grilles.

Brand new elise s2 windscreen with black trim

New 145cm adjustable rear GT wing spoiler (fibreglass with carbon effect)

New 10” Aluminium adjustable wing mounting brackets

New ZXR wing mirrors

New Racing quick release locking pins for front and rear bonnet.

Custom made rear clam and spoiler support / mounting platform.

Although the car starts and runs for demo purposes It couldn’t be driven yet as its running the standard map on the original ecu – it needs an OBD tuner fully mappable ecu which is roughly £700 I believe which can be found here http://www.obdtuner.com/ - this is not only to map the fuel and ignition trims but also to enable the wideband controller, TMAP sensor and EGR delete. After this it should be running roughly 250bhp and in a car that weighs under 900kg that’s going to be pretty quick!

The car also needs some finish touches which are listed below-

-edging trim on the kick plates

-front and rear splitters

-flat bottomed smaller steering wheel with thin boss as the current ones position is too close to the driver.

-The panel joints tidying up where the rear clam meets the side skirts ( could be covered with a joining plate or refinished by a bodyshop.

- rear screen made for the bulkhead – I was going to do it from Perspex as it could be done for under £50 and would let more light into the cabin.

-Activation cable / mechanism for plumed in fire extinguisher

- Original plastic door card inserts (provided) need spraying / wrapping as the custom made chequer plate ones look naff.

-Tracking

In reality the car could be finished for around £1200 including the cost of the ECU but unfortunately my circumstance have changed and I now have very little time on my hands and wouldn’t be able to use the car even if I did manage to finish it so I am testing the waters to sell it as it stands now.

This car was bought for around £7000 and has had well over £12k spent on it over the last year to get it to where it is now and that doesn’t even include labour costs– for the new racing body elements prepped and sprayed cost around £4500 alone.

bearing in mind the above I am open to sensible offers.

Please also bare in mind that because the fibreglass body panels are custom made the panel gaps aren’t perfect and also the finish on the grille cutouts aren’t  perfect either but you have to remember that this isn’t a show / super car and is closer to the finish of a race car.

I'm open to offers guys - also any suggestions as to what you feel the car is worth in its current state and possibly finished- any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

The problem is that you've built a race car that has mods that will exclude it from 80 per cent of the race series that it would have been eligible for and other mods that don't give the best performance

Obviously a big project, maybe finish it off and go enjoy it for what you where planning, while keeping it up for sale.

It looks great but the mods have restricted your sales base and I don’t think a vx has ever sold for nearly £19k without a properly running engine.

Thanks for your opinions guys - yeah I thought that £18995 might be a bit optimistic as it stands and although I was aware that with current mods it has excludes it from most race series my original plan was to build something for track days / fast road as opposed to actually competing in a series - putting race car in the description title may have been a little misleading.

I have decided to lower the price as the car stands to £16495 which I feel is more realistic and a fair price for the car - I am still open to sensible offers.
