Hey all, Im sure this has been covered 100 times but what are peoples view on front wheels?

 

I have the choice of the following fronts (to run with std turbo rears and 225s):

 

- std fronts with std tyre size

- std fronts with a wider tyre?

- astra 16" fronts and spacers

 

While drivability is the major goal (on/off track) I do want them to look decent and I think the astras pull it off ok. I also like the idea of staggered diameters like the Lotus cars run.

 

Not really interested in swapping to TDs etc, I think if I was going that route Id swap hubs and get some lotus wheels.

You can get away with running 195's on std front OEM vx wheels. Anything wider needs a wider wheel and different offset to avoid fouling. I have run 3 options: std set-up, 195's on std front wheels and 205's mounted on rear wheels. Horses for courses really..

 

My opinion as below:

 

Std set-up is fine for road use.

195's on fronts gives less understeer/more grip

205's on rears up front is better still but arguably unnecessary unless on track

 

As you progress down the list the tramlining and road noise increases significantly.

I run rear wheels on the front with 205/45/17 tyres (AD08R)

I ran a 6mm spacers for years which is enough but recently upgraded to 15mm as the wheels still looked to far in the arch for my liking (personal choice)

any rubbing on the 15mm spacers?

 

I actually have a pair of 15s but they dont sit over the hub properly. it interferes with the hubcentric part of the spacer

Remember when you run rears on the front as the offset is -10 difference you need the spacer to push the wheel back out where it should be

I have the same set up rears on the front with spacers only time I got any rubbing was when I lowered the car too much but also got bump steer so lifted it back up again
