I have been spending ages in my car in the mornings demisting my windscreen with the pathetic fan. I have used leather pads before bu they always smear my windscreen. What are your top tips for a speedy start in the mornings (and a garage is not an option! :( ) It is starting to p*ss me off a bit! Jim

I start the car, put the blowers on full, then go back in the house and have a nice cup of coffee, when I come back to the car no misting left thumbsup

That's why they give you two keys.

I use RainX, which I can thoroughly recommend. There are two types though, so make sure that you use the internal one (which prevents misting very well).

Well, I went out and bought some from Halfords after your suggestion was heartily backed up by some s/c mx-5 nutter in the office. Superb, only had time to apply the anti-fog stuff but my car fogs up like a b*st*rd on a cold morning - and today, no fog at all!

Going to put the outside stuff on at the weekend by which point my PIAA silicone wiper will have arrived which should mean total windscreen clarity.

Ben

I am going to give this rainX stuff a go, sounds like it works.

Cheers Ben,

Jim

The other thing to check is whether you've got any leaks, or whether your mats are damp. If there is any excess water in the car (as in more than is in the air that is in there - if you see what I mean) this can make a huge difference. This loaner VXT has got a leak (or 3), and it steams up like a sauna - I'm sure mine wasn't that bad...

Sorry about that! Have been trying to resist suggesting it for months, had posted on that other misting thread a few days back and then decided to go for extra cheeky factor :P

The RainX stuff is OK but seems to go a bit funny over time unless you keep cleaning and topping up every 2-3 weeks. Am currently trialling the Weathertec stuff. Shall post results in the other thread in a week or two's time.

I use a combination of Halfords Interior Mist Repellant and an exterior cover (also from Halfords - about £50). Works well. Using the cover depends on whether it's raining when I want to put it on. No matter what they say about it being OK, I still wouldnt want to put it on the car when it's wet.

I have a short drive to work and the engine doesn't get warm enough to demist until I'm at where I'm going. I've got a Kenlowe heater which is plumbed into the car cooling system. When it's frosty I plug it in the night before on a timeswitch, and it heats up the coolant in the block and radiator, so I get warm air to the windscreen as soon as I start the engine. The other thing I do is place an old 2kw blow heater in the passenger footwell and leave that on for 15 mins before starting. These two things seperately or in combination make all the difference on cold damp winter mornings. :)

Is it just me that has a good hot heater in my VXT? There has been a couple of cold mornings this last week, and once the car engine starts to warm up, the heaters blow nice hot air, which in turn clears the windows fairly quick. I'm sure once the really frosty mornings kick in it may be a different story. Only bought it in June this year so I wouldn't know. Is it that bad once the air is bitter cold??

Try cleaning you windows. The cleaner the window the less mist you will get. I find a good quality wax also helps. I can clear mist off my windows in approx 15-30 seconds with just the heater on. PS stop the heavy breathing, phone the porn lines from your house phone. :P
