Hi All,

Opened the rear boot on my VX NA this morning and ll was fine until I came to close it. Now the catch wont hold and I cant fasten it. Looking at the release catch it all looks in line its just not catching, cable is all good. Looks like ill need a replacement catch.

Anyone know where I might get an original one or alternatively if any other models will fit?

I'm a bit desperate as I have a track day booked at Cadwell this Friday so need to get it sorted before then

You can mod fit a handle. Check ebay for "BONNET HOOD RELEASE CABLE WITH HANDLE"

If the cable is ok then just swap the handle over, its just a basic pull handle much like a push bike brake so normally easy to fix or mod

The catch might just need adjusting.. mine wouldn't lock properly unless I slammed it hard, so I loosened the two bolts which hold catch mechanism in place and carefully remove/add spacers one at time (so you don't loose catch underneath boot) to move mechanism closer or further away from spring bit...

Mine sticks but will release properly if you just wiggle the release handle.

I have a slightly different issue with my boot catch. It will open and close fine, but can occasionally without waring, open at random. This will normally happen while on a motorway or somewhere where stopping to close it is not a fun option.

I really should spend the 5 mins needed to adjust the catch, but it adds character to the car and a bit of jeopardy to every drive..

The pin end of the catch i.e. the lid end has 2 flats on it that you cant see cos the spring and circular bit hide it.. If the flats are aligned with the catch in the body it wont lock or it will pop open. There is a screwdriver slot in the end of the pin, turn the pin until the slot is facing side to side rather than front back and hopefully that'll sort it.

If you do this make sure you slacken off the nut which holds the catch against boot lid, I recently did mine and if you try to turn the catch without loosening off the nut, it simply won’t budge.
