Hey all, noticed some steam coming from the bonnet at lights, not losing much coolant so think its just spotting out a bit but enough that I want to replace the rad before it explodes on track.

 

Is it worth replacing the fans as well at the same time? I see rad and fan combos for ok money on the bay:

 

£175 gets me this which I presume would require a little wiring to interface with the std loom:

 

 

What else is worth doing when the clam is off and the innards exposed? Cheers all

I'd get a front clam fastener kit from eBay, half the bolts will be rusted and the other half rounded.

yeah I have the whole car clam and tray kit ready to go

 You could also look at the front ARB bushes, if they are original they'll most likely want renewing. Also maybe consider fitting a new horn while the clam is off? its massive pain to get to when they stop working.

The first thing I would do would be to establish exactly where the leak is. No point in changing the rad if it's a hose or bleed screw problem?

As above. Check where is it leaking, could be a bleed screw and you can repair that in situ. If removing the whole rad, I would rather the hoses too. Add a fair bit to the cost but peace of mind etc.

Seems be around the front lid hinge area so don’t think it’s a pipe. It evaporates before I can get a proper look tho

This.. Get a stainless one.

The original one is by now likely a collection of rust held together by a thin layer of paint...
