I'm going to be doing "Go Sober", in October. This means 'tea totalling' for 31 long days. Those that know me will know that this will not be easy but my liver will enjoy the rest, I might lose a bit of weight and it might spark off a much needed fitness campaign. If you would like to sponsor me it's all in a good cause, Macmillan Cancer Support. It's a charity that have helped me personally and members of my family and friends, so it's my turn to do a little in return.

Thanks for anything you donate and sorry for the shameless plug!

I don't normally think that I have a potential drink problem but thought of going 31 days without a drink makes me think that I have got one.

I did just over a year; few back off the back of a particular New Year.

440 days in the end.

Lot of friends said I wouldn't manage it but it got easier after first 4 weeks.  :-)

What worked best for me was friends who had said I couldn't do it and knowing no beer tastes as good as looking them in the eye and knowing my will power was strong enough that I could.

Good luck

One thing that might help a little is the many zero alcohol beers knocking around.

I oft wonder what it’s like to finally have a drink after a month off or six months off? Do you really notice it? Maybe it’s all about when you do it. Must be tough in January immediately after the Christmas / New Year excess.

Anyway, much respect for your endeavour and I hope you benefit from it .

The bonus being we now have a designated driver for your drinking den.

Good for you for deciding to go for it. I'm sure you'll be able to do it thumbsup

The selection has got vastly better over the past 2 years.

Heineken 0 being about the best of the lagers.

What it doesn't stop is the head f**K where you drink say 4-6 bottles of the stuff and get in the car totally legal to drive but it feels SO SO wrong.

That’s cheating though Chris, mind still thinks you are indulging even if liver is happier😛

Won’t help your weight loss either, water is the only way to go 😉. I think you should start a trial from Thurs evening through to Monday morning to see how it goes 😄😄

You’re only sober most of the year due to being too tight to buy a drink 😛

Did you get my longish text?

Bet you thought it would never come round?

Bigging up the booze tonight? Hitting the bottle with a vengeance? How do you celebrate the end of a sober October?

Well I made it to the end without a drop of alcohol and it wasn't that bad. I really don't think about it at all now, however my cocaine habit has gone up a bundle!

Seriously if I do have a drink tonight it'll only be a couple. Do I feel better for it, well actually no. After week 1 I ended up in hospital with heart problems, nothing serious but enough for the doc to send me straight off. Also feel more achey than I normally do. Might have a few just to see if the aching stops. Not lost an ounce of weight which I'm surprised about but hey ho.

Shootings got better though Pete. Entering a benchrest comp this month, no chance of winning just want to see how I stack up against others. We must get together for a plink (yeah plink not drink lol) sometime.
