Hi, I added an additive to my gearbox, Liqui Moly gear protect. I used on two of my cars on the past with very good results and also on many customers cars, last one this past Tuesday, always without complaints or problems.

The best results was on a Seat Ibiza who kills his gearbox and doesn't want to fix it and decided to bring me a scrap one, with the bad luck that has grinding noise in 3rd gear and other one, I don't remember because it was around 1-2years ago. After around 300km the grinding noises disappeared, I checked them and yes, was true. I don't believe in miracles.

But my problem is that after around 100/150km of hard driving, my gearbox was grinding on 3rd and 4th gear, up and down shifting, always if I go up to 4000rpms. At lower rpms I haven't got any problems, also goes more smooth and less noise when I release the gas but I prefer noises and hard shifting than kill my synchros.

I don't know why this happened, maybe the oil too thick or not compatible with the additive or the additive makes the baulk ring sleepers haven't enough grip with the cone and can't equal the synchro speed with the drive gear

So tomorrow I'll drain the box, flush with gm specific oil and after 100/150km, drain again and refill with the same or buy Fuchs 75W-80... what I really know is that I need to drain the box assap!

With this experience I hope that nobody adds an additive to this gearbox oil or what I add

I only ever use the GM gearbox oil without any additives. Ive never had issues with it if its filled correctly.

I concurr with chris. Tried another brand once, and it was spat out the breather pipe.

Oem stuff back in, and everything normal again.

Amazing how sensitive that stuff can be.

Exactly the same as above.
Also it just sounds like unfortunately your synchro's have possibly failed which is a relatively cheap repair as gearbox repairs go. Box out to repair shop.

I changed to Motul Gear 300 fully synthetic last year and it helped my shift quality in cold weather. I couldn't tell a difference in warm though or once it was warmed up.

I'm a great fan of surface coatings for engine components (including gears), but i'm never sure about one-size-fits-all pour-in products.
My thoughts are that the Liqui Moly has had a bad effect on the synchros. I've seen plenty of pour-in products that worked well on one oil/in one car and terribly in another, so maybe the Seat gearbox was the lucky one this time.

As a (sad) anecdote, I know someone who put Slick 50 in his Ferarri DCT under the 'it was good in my old Ferarri' premise. The old Ferarri was a manual. It did not end well.

This is what the Opel dealer send me. The old reference was changed to this one, but the oil is red...I think that this gearbox doesn't use the red one. Is right or wrong?

The reference what I have: 1940768 or 09120541

Automatic gearbox is very sensitive but a manual gearbox...

Kills my self to remove and open the box...I haven't got time because I have a lot of projects waiting

Firstly change the oil and pray

I have the gear protect and engine flush from liqui Moly. The mainly cars who I fix on my garage are VAG. I don't know what happened, today in the morning when I drained the box, I looked the oil and wasn't the oem one...I think that it has 75w90

The Ferrari owner will be very happy 😁

Ok, thanks! I'll throw it. I think that will be good, because the price is awesome...motul 300v motor oil is a bargain compared with gm gearbox oil

Well, good news for the moment. After drain the oil almost 10 hours, 9:30 to 19:30, and blow air by the top plug, I refilled with the gm "sangria" and after running around 20 km I pushed the 2nd gear to the red light, engaged 3th gear quickly and perfect. Tomorrow I'll test up and down shift.

I examined the old oil and hasn't got "gold" on it, only a little but nothing worrying, doesn't look like metallic paint or gold nuggets...
