Can any advise on where I can source a new wire that tensions the fabric roof

You have 2 options available.

 

OEM lotus.

Or an aftermarket from ElizP.

The aftermarket is stronger and should live longer, but as you can see in the design has metal parts that will touch the rubber of your front and rear seals.
It could potentially scrub on those.

I will leave it up to you which is the most important. Either case the job is a pita.

In my case i went to the dyi shop and got a 1 meter threaded rod that fitted exactly on the adjuster, and pulled in the new cable that way.
Easy peasy with that.

I've noticed that the aftermarket cables chafe the paintwork on the rollbar cover when they are slack, maybe a bit of heat shrink over the joint, loosely applied to allow the movement, might work.

Indeed... I have never had to do it. It is all stainless?

Yes stainless.

The part where the wire goes through has 2 stiching lines.

Sometimes you have to take one out to be able to run it through. It is really right.

There is another option...

 

Mine had broken off where the cable goes into the end fitting that doesn't rotate (if you see what I mean - one end has a threaded fitting that can rotate to adjust the tension, the other end is fixed).

 

I bought (from these folks: https://www.gsproduc...-wire-rope-swr/) a length of 1.5mm stainless wire, coated with clear PVC, a crimp tool and a load of ferrules.

 

For the fixed end I just replaced the fitting with a crimped loop.

For the rotating end I turned down a copper end stop to make it the right diameter then crimped it on, in the same way that the old wire had an end stop on it to allow the rotating threaded barrel (which I reused) to rotate.

I turned down the copper end stop by holding it in the chuck of a drill and rotating it against a file.

 

I didn't have any issues feeding the wire through the channel, because I fed it through before crimping the final fitting on. 

Way easier than messing about feeding big fittings through a narrow channel and having to unpick seams etc.

It’s really simple to change them over provided you’ve kept the old one in.

Just tie a piece of string to both cables and pull the new one through with the old one.
