I went for a long ridge line walk in the Brecon Beacons. I love the raw power of nature.

 

Roughly 60 MPH winds on the tops, enough to make you stagger around a bit.

Strongest wind at my place 77 mph.  This years previous highest 66 mph.  Strongest ever a few years ago 94 mph.  That blew the scaffolding that was against next door's house down and across my garden, bending the poles and smashing my brand new fencing panels and concrete posts, and just missed spearing my brand new and full oil tank by about six inches.  Also took out the power line on the way down.  The builder was scurrying around at first light dismantling what was left before Scottish Power turned up so he wouldn't be liable for the cable coming down.  I had an empty disconnected LPG tank in the field and the wind actually got it rolling.  77 mph isn't surprising, - 80+ is not uncommon and it was only 84 in Capel Curig.  Heard the mountain rescue helicopter going over in the dark - "Even in this weather you always get some idiot going out on the mountains" my wife remarked - oops - sorry Nev.

Thankfully I'm not an idiot, but I know what you mean, I've seen all manner of unprepared people on the hills.

Much the same as Nev's post dude, ive surfed for 29 years and would have had no issue going out yesterday (albeit it was sh*t), its people with limited experience going out and getting in trouble.
