Afternoon chaps and chapettes. 

Thinking of having my wheel retrimmed - but wanted to make sure I do everything right and not have an air bag go off in my face when I take it off!

I found this thread http://www.vx220.org...steering-wheel/ which I kind of follow. If anyone has any photos of the wheel off that would help too!

Also, as the wheel will be sent off to be retrimmed and out the car, ideally I dont want to leave the battery disconnected for 3-4 days with the car parked on the road as I wont be able to lock it. 

I read somewhere, you don't necessarily need to remove the negative on the battery, you simply leave the car for 15 mins and everything will be shut down, is that correct? What if I remove the airbag and wheel with battery connected and then blip the door lock, will that cause problems?

/edit , after checking wiring diagram , airbag control unit is fed from a common from ignition key switch position 2 , from big Fuse 1 . If you need to disconnect battery , as a good precaution install a wire pull on the bonnet release so you can get in from outside car.

Thanks mate, so in laymans terms I don't need to disconnect the battery as the airbag is only active if the key is in the ignition partly or fully turned?

To be doubly safe, you could disconnect the battery for removal, add a resistor in the place of the airbag and then reconnect the battery. Everything will then function as normal until you get the lovely new trimmed steering wheel at which point you disconnect the battery, remove the fuse and reconnect everything.
