Hello,

My car has a relay box on the left in the boot (with a cover over it) and a harness passing through it.

Assuming your mobility allows you reach into the boot,  give that area a wiggle perhaps. Or a thump. It might be a bad connection.

The brake light switch is under the front bonnet tucked away.  It's a complete sod to get at.  I had this on mine and found it was corrosion on the terminals of the switch.  Pull the plug off and give them a clean if you can, or as last resort give the plug a good wiggle.  Might do the trick.
