Soooo, I bought an LED security light.  Worked fine for a few months but now flashes on and off.  I wondered if the light itself was affecting the detector but no.  If I take the back off to expose it's guts has any one got any ideas what it might be?

The other option is to bin it and start again but thought I'd ask first.

Slindy?

If you've checked the obvious things like poor connections then if it's an LED and flashing, usually indicates that the driver is knackered.

There are a lot of poorly manufactured light fittings around these days unfortunately.

Damn B&Q!

They do a range of lighting there called Blomb or Bloom or something along those lines that seems to have a woeful reputation for reliability.

We've had a halogen PIR spotlight on the front of the garage for 12 years and it's never put a foot wrong. Until the fcuking builders managed to stick something straight through the PIR sensor. Light still works fine manually but kind of defeats the purpose of it now.

Hmmm, perhaps look for some halogen lights then!

You can have this one. :P

Assuming I can ever remove it from inside the garage soffit where I wedged it when replacing the fascia/soffit/roof tiles t'other day. For some unknown reason, the electrician that fitted it drilled the cables through a random loose piece of 4"x2" timber that was in the soffit void. Was sorely tempted to just cut the wires last week but discretion being the better part of valour, I elected not to chance it and shoved it up into the roof void which will now involve digging through the copious VX spares and cutting part of the attic boards in order to extricate it. :beat:

We have the same (upright bulb at the top and pir at the bottom) on the entrance to the garage. It's also developed the same strobe effect. I've left it as I hope that if someone tries to break in it causes them to have a fit. Will serve them right.

Will get around to replacing it at some point.

I have pir LEDs from cef, not experienced the problems you describe, halogen are fine apart from the electrical consumption and cost of replacing bulbs

Screwfix's LAP brand has given me around a 80% success rate- but the ones that broke had the decency to do so in around a week while i still had the reciept, so they were all replaced, and the replacements have never failed (so far).

I've had success with Toolstation's Zinc branded lights as well.
One has a hyper-sensitive sensor, but also a short duration so I forgive it due to it's location in the garden.

These have all been mains types - i've never used solars thus far.

I bought

LAP LED PIR Floodlight Black 30W Daylight (180CC)

from Screwfix and it has been faulty for a few months (just dimmly lit), called yesterday to check if it was still in warranty and found out I bought them September 2019.

Should have got round to looking at it when it stopped working
