Just a quick question, hopefully someone can help. Decided to get the wheels of the VXT today and give them a clean. While the wheels were of I notice the collar that is fitted at the top of the coil, I assume its made from aluminum, looks to be very corroded, almost like some of the outer part of the collar has started to break away. The car recently passed an MOT so I assume it is not a real problem otherwise it would have failed. Do I need to worry about this? or fit new springs/shocks? The shocks are yellow with  Bilstein written on them, not sure of type, not adjustable.  Any advice would be appreciated.

Can you post up a pic? If it's passed it's MoT it would suggest it's OK. It is possible to get a refurb done too if you're worried.

This is a very common problem given the age of the cars and you should look to replace the collars.  Luckily they are readily available from the likes of eliseparts and it's a relatively easy job.  If these fail it would be unpleasant!  If the rest of the shock is also scabby you might want to consider a refurb or replacement.

It’s common for them to crumble to dust, you can get replacements here

Thanks for the reply, I did not realize I could just replace the collars. Problems sorted. Thanks.

Yeah really common
Most people just buy new suspension but you can get the collars redone
