I am looking for the pair of Piper cams with the 10.7mm valve lift and the 266 duration.

The other brands are also of interest, such as the Catcams 259,267 and 277 and the Compcams 256,262 and 268.

If you have some for sale i'd be grateful to know, and also what you would want for them, posted.

I have a set of OEM that I can send for rework, so I can go new if need be, alternatively can build them into a part exchange deal.

Do you need a long exhaust cam for the Z22SE head, or a short one for fitting a B207 head?

I have a pair of Comp cams. Need to check the grind numbers .

For a z22se head, although I thought it was short cam for z22se, long for b207 due to the extra bearing on the b207 head. But I may be misunderstanding you.

Avoid the Piper cams. I've had a catastrophic failure of a rocker arm due to the way they are ground. The heel of the cam allows the rocker to become loose and in my case it was ejected. Posted Image

I would have hoped they built up more metal to avoid that.

How do you view that failure;
Was it bad workmanship/finishing or do you suspect an actual problem with the cam profile?
Was it one rocker or was there signs oon the others as well?

I thought Piper just did regrinds?

Perhaps the reduction in base circle was the cause of failure.

As said the reduction on Base circle caused the failure. The grind allowed a 0.3mm gap between the rocker and cam. Over time this weakened the roller and caused the eventual demise. I took this up with Piper, and even suggested that a 1mm shim under each hydraulic lifter would prevent future failures.

I sent them all the damaged components and samples of the lifters in adjacent cylinders which clearly show signs of trying to operate beyond their intended range.

Sadly they deny fault and blame the failure of the single rocker.

I was always under the impression you should fit lash adjuster shims/spacers on the Z22 when fitting regrinds. I am surprised Piper don't recommend it, or at least mention it in the instructions, instead of suggesting it after you have had a failure!

Sadly I wasn't aware of lash adjustment until after the failure, they should be supplied in the kit or a warning sticker put on the kit. I've gone comp cams now, and the engine has been completely stripped cleaned and reassembly is in progress.

Well thats scary, but important feedback.
I'm not against making and hardening some shims, but i'll call that Plan B for now.

Is it a simple job to retro fit the shims or is it a PITA ?

Z22SE head it's just a case of removing each lifter and placing one under each of the 16. However not possible on the B207 head as it's constructed differently.

Making shims is the bad bit of the process - you need to cut tiny biscuits of a good steel (silver steel/tool steel/BS 1407 steel are some of the names), usually grind it to a snug diameter for the lash adjuster bore, grind it to shim height and then heat treat them.
Because these are between the head and the lash adjuster you may get away with a lesser steel or the heat treating.

If you have the cam train already out then fitting then fitting is simple - drop them down the lash adjuster bore then pop in the lash adjuster.
