Hi All

I have just recently bought a vx220 turbo as a non running project with no history, I was told a little story of its history by the previous owner all be it without any proof.

Supposedly owned by Vauxhall for a number of years from new, which is believable as was this exact car was driven by Jeremy Clarkson on top gear, then it was sold to a charity. The charity were going to have people they support work on restoring the car, the charity went bankrupt and the car was then sold in early 2020. Was used once in his ownership for a track day where it did only 3 laps due to wet weather and only
Being able to fit in the car wearing a helmet with the roof off.

I have a number of parts already waiting to be installed such as a fully built z20leh engine, twin scroll borgwarner efr 7670 turbo setup, link g4+ extreme ecu all with the intentions of achieving 550-600 bhp.
The main aim is straight line performance, car will be mainly used to compete in 1/2 mile rolling or standing mile events (racewars) (terminal velocity)

Based in south east, Kent area

Cheers all 👍🏽

It is the car Clarkson tested on Top Gear, one of the first built..

Apart from any arguable significance of that.. I have to ask.. if you're just after a straight-line weapon, why are starting with a VX, which is all about the twisty stuff?

You say all about the twisty stuff but it’s the lightest platform vx you can get with a z20 let running gear platform. Have a stripped out mk4 gsi at 440bhp but this is the next big step to take.

Apologies pal I was just scrolling through past threads and see i didn’t reply.

A guy called Steve Milton done all the machining work, he’s who I would recommend but sadly he passed away this year.

It depends on how much work your planning to do to it and where you’re located really.

Machining wise if your looking to wedge the block, bore for larger pistons, go for a big build I would use Johnathan Heard - Spec J is his companys name.

If you’re looking for someone to strip the engine down before hand and then build the engine back up after
I would highly recommend Muni Singh who is in Crawley, West Sussex. He has built 2 engines for me and many more for other people I know, all of which were done to a meticulously high standard without any issues at all.
Does the work in his spare time so might take longer than others to compete and obviously doesn’t come
With a receipt.

If you’d rather spend a few more pennies and have an established company do it a good friend of mine works at Connaught Competition Engines in sittingbourne.

Drop me a message if you want their contact details 👍🏽

Then Muni Singh who’s well known for z20 engine builds assembled the engine
