Has anyone recently done either a full respray or a full wrap? Id be interested in costs for both and any issues/pros/cons etc.

Cheers

Just had a read, Was the wrap you had that bad? Ive seen a few videos and they look pretty good normally. What made you remove it?

Wraps, they aren't bullet proof, they can develop breaks in the wrap, can peel if not properly cured when applied, they are subject to any change in paintwork under them i.e. bubbling etc. They are though reversible, you can get some great colours, its going to be cheaper than a respray. I would also bear in mind wraps can reduce the sellability of your car, as many buyers view with suspicion that underneath is a car with terrible paintwork. I had a wrap on the front of a previous car, and a sizeable stone chip hit the front and tore a hole in it. Paint, its going to be more expensive, but can be maintained and will ideally last the lifetime of your car. Care wise, its harder to maintain and keep the paint looking good vs a wrap. I have seen poor quality wrap material come off cars that its sat on for a couple of years and taken the clearcoat off with it. Generally the material I would only ever have on the car is Avery or 3M. Watch out for 'cheap deals' when wrapping that use sub quality vinyl to cut costs.

To be honest, if you have the budget, I would paint it, if not, I would wrap it.

I've always considered it to be spray for value (add or retention), wrap for fun.

I wrapped a scooter with a 3M carbon fibre-look wrap 6/7 years ago and it still looks new. Naff, but new.
I also wrapped a Toyota Hilux with a metallic red wrap around the same time and other than bird dropping stains (the starlings must eat caustic soda where i live) it still looks good.
I did both myself with a squeege and hairdryer and the truck cost around £400 with enough off-cuts to do the doors in a flat's kitchen.

I've recently had my car re-sprayed (silver). I was quoted £3,000 but knocked him down to £2500 for cash. I wouldn't say that it was the best job in the world but is more than satisfactory and suits my requirements.

I actually had a local firm also quote for wrapping same vehicle (but in powder blue - Yeh I know, it's time I grew up). This was to include door shuts etc and they wanted £3,250 but said that was minimum and could be higher if they encountered any problems!

I also had a go at wrapping the car myself with disastrous results. I think I applied and removed one piece seven times. It looks a lot easier on YT.

All the best.

Bob

The respray, was that a colour change?

I've been quoted £3k for same colour respray (silver) but £5k for a colour change. To be fair, this is a top notch independent who does paint work for Lamborghini/Ferrari/Aston dealers.

From what I can work out, £3k sounds about the going rate for respray for same colour, with £4k - 6k for colour change (done properly and not mates rates).
