Ecu

I had an ongoing issue with the engine light which thought I'd fixed ( checked fuses, relays connectors behind tank, changed battery etc) thought I had fixed it , light went out but on trip out after about 1/2 hour (20 miles) light on and went into limp mode, struggled home and checked everything again , managed to sort it and then same thing happened again. The mot was getting imminent and found a good garage in Stoke who knows the cars explained the intermitant problem and said will have a look. Took the car into Stoke to drop it off about 1/2 hr journey, fingers crossed but got into Stoke a couple of miles from garage and went into limp mode ,long story short very embarrassing (wife following me) stop start journey to the garage in very busy Saturday traffic . The chap at the garage has checked it (test drive and same thing happened)and the conclusion seems to be the ecu as something seems to break down when hot. He has tried Vauxhall and thought he had found one but in end doesn't exist, can someone help where we can go next, he is searching and I said will check on here as very helpful bunch.
Thanks
Simon

That do a refurbished ECU along with the matching key transponders for around £100

Can't remember who, but someone uploaded the original NA firmware at some point.
http://www.speedster...cu/vx220_na.zip
I am not skilled enough to assess the usability of it as to if/how to get keys assigned to it.
I think that now we are having more and more failing ecu's, it would be nice if someone with the skills
could write down the compete procedure, from buying a used (locked?) astra ecu, up to a working one for our vx.

opcom is a software based "cracked" version of the official opel/vauxhall tech2, with a bit more limited functionality.
I think you need a more professional flasher for putting in that earlier posted vx220 specific flash, but again i am way out of my comfort zone on this.
This is a typical sizetenboots thingy.

Opcom can't flash software, it can only set variant coding which is mostly useless for the vx220. You need to use some other solution to write the whole .bin file into the ECU based on an Vx220. Or take it to a Vauxhall dealer to use their MDI and Tis2Web to re-write the software. I have trodden the second path. It works. Prior to this I was getting Mil lights as the Astra ECU was looking for twin fuel senders.

I do have everything needed to reset and reprogram an ex Astra/Zafira ECU so it will work correctly on the VX220. If you buy one from eBay without it being reset, you can find them for as little £15-£20, so it’s a cheaper option if you can get the car and ECU over to me.

If you know your four number immobiliser code it would make it easy to set up a new ECU. In your wallet that came with the car there would be a credit card sized card with the four numbers.
I think it was called SecurePass, or something similar (someone will correct, i'm sure)
It can be put into another VX220 ecu with the 'Skipton' firmware, or a cloned version using a Astra/Zafira unit with the Skipton firmware written on to it. I keep two clones (in vacuum sealed bags with dessicant) just in case.
By the looks of it Ayresyy can do the same trick.
If you don't have the code card then it can be extracted from the existing ECU, but it is a sphincter-tightener the first time you do it if you have to do it yourself.
But you realise that it's harmless when you get used to it.
If you get a taste for it you end up reprogramming stuff....
