Didn't get round to fitting the Alpine at the w/end and I've now got the time.
So ... is it ok to connect the ground to battery earth? Permanent (yellow with choke box) live to battery live? And red ignition live to battery live or best to run from the fusebox (ignition fuse or radio fuse)?
Cheers

It's not a problem, as such, to wire both power wires direct to the battery, but it's better to have the switched one switched, so that the radio does things like turn it'self off with the ignition.
Edit to say: Your other connections are fine
Oh, and don't forget the speakers

So I should run the red live 1) through the ISO box thingy with the secondary feed directly from fusebox?
Been a few years since dabbling with stereos

....just make sure you have a correctly rated in-line fuse on your live wire....
I haven't fitted a head unit yet, one on the way for Xmass. I would of thought the car's designers and manufacturer would have the foresight to put the correct power lines in under the dash for untilisation

Ground.
Going to the battery should be fine, as this is only a single component setup (I.E No amps etc) you shouldn't have a problem with noise. However, unless the ground is a seperate cable, just plug it into the ISO Ground. (Black)
The Yellow cable, is this a long cable by itself or again, stuck in an ISO? If its in the ISO it should be ok as it is, however if its a long cable, ideally it needs to go to the battery. The Headunit should already be fused for this wire. The red wire, if this is IGN On then it should go to the ISO.
GND - Usually Black, Ground. ISO should be fine.
LIVE - Pernament live, if its stuck to the ISO this should be fine. If its a seperate cable, to the battery. This is where the stereo will take most of its power from.
IGN - Ignition, this goes to a line that has 12v when the car's ignition is switched on. This should be fine in the ISO as no major current is drawn.
ILL - Illumination, usually an orange wire, Should be stuck in the ISO. This usually dimms the display when the car's lights are on.
ACC - Usually Blue, when the unit recieves power it puts out 12v on this line also. Usually used for Electric aerials and remote on's for amplifier.
There may be some other cables also, such as TEL Mute etc, ignore these.

Nice one Paul
Alpine:
Red - ISO (with second red feed away from ISO)
Blue - ISO
Black - seperate for ground
Yellow - with choke box for battery permanent
Car:
Black
Green
Red/Black
Purple/Orange
Lilac
Yellow/Silver
Green/Pink
And any pointers on feeding connections to the battery thru dash/footwell?
Cheers

RED ISO. The extra lead, is it just a second wire going to the same location on the ISO with a heatshrunk plug on the end of it? If so, then this second wire is nothing. Its just used as a flying lead so that other devices can be spliced to it for IGN on power.
BLACK. Personally, I'd splice a cable from this into the ISO, and also bolt the black cable down to something solid on the cassis. Just to be extra safe, its important to get a good ground on these things!
YELLOW. Thru the bulkhead via IANHD's method to the battery terminal. Use one of the small bolts on the battery connector. Do it as neat as possible, maybe even buy a crimpable connector from Halfords. It can be dangerous having some half assed manky stripped wire wrapped round the battery post! (I've seen it!)
Trust Vauxhall to come up with a non standard wiring colour! You might want to invest in one of these (usually available in Halfords also) http://www.caraudiod...roducts_id=1303
Usually when I'm doing an install I'll buy an ISO extender, basically adds 4" of wire into the loom, but it allows me to splice things into it and isolate things without damaging the Car's loom, or the more expensive to replace stereo loom. (If you want to sell after!)
