Has anyone gone down the remove all the CATS route yet? I took my pre-cat out last weekend and it made a noticable difference. Would love to put a straight through pipe on and loose the CAT as I won't need an MOT for 2 yrs. Anyone got any ideas? Currently running standard manifold, no pre-cat and a Regal twin pipe exhaust. Only problem is I think the Regal backbox is 60mm bore but the CAT pipe is 53mm and they made an adapter to fit it!

Yeh, I started with the pre-cat but now I'm completely de-catted. The ideal solution would be to simply sleeve the pipe where the main cat is and then just replace it with clips for the MOT. I managed that with my Subaru but unfortunately there is not enough meat to do that on the VX. My way was to buy a complete used primary section from Regal (they charged me 150 quid including postage) and I believe they have several left which have been removed from cars when they've fitted their system. You then need to CAREFULLY cut out the main cat with an angle grinder and replace it with stainless steel pipe of the correct length (use argon/co2 mix and stainless wire in the mig welder). HOWEVER before cutting out the cat its best to make up a jig so that the length and bolt hole relationship with the re-built item is the same as the original and then it just bolts straight in. I will keep my nice new original primary pipe and cat and just re-fit it for the MOT in three years time. The only problem is the management light. It WILL come on after about 100 miles with both cats removed (see previous correspondence). Hope this helps. Griffo

yes, I removed everything too. 4kg-lightier car and a throatier growl, maybe some extra horses.... dunno really....having installed the exhaust manifold and the komo-tec backbox at the same time, I know thet there was a good improvement in punch at 4000rpms compared to the pre-kat only . mil light is on, but no probs.

cheers Griffo and others for the advise. £150 squids for an old cat from Regal. Man they are pricey! I really want to try and get hold of a cat pipe and take it to an exhaust place like Powerflow and get them to make the whole thing up in stainless! Any ideas guys?
