Much appreciate it if someone could give a bit of info on headlight removal in order to fit a main beam bulb on drivers side. When searching i noticed someone suggested jacking the car up and removing the inner wheel arch cover. Seems a bit drastic for a bulb. I also noticed that the alternative was to fully remove the light cluster. Its dark now and i'll do the job tomorrow. before I get jiggy with the socket set Is there an easy way? Is it just one awkward bolt to get the headlight off? Thanx, Cameron

Cameron, from the front clam removal guide here

"Now the trickier bits. Remove the headlamps. This can be done either from underneath by pulling the inner wing away from the bodywork or from above by working your hand under the bonnet. I actually found it easier from above. There is a single 13mm AF nut holding them in. Remove the nut and the steel backing plate. Withdraw headlamp unit from clamshell and unplug the connector."

Good luck

Cheers for that, sounds easy enough. I'll bet you need to have a hand the size of a 3 year old to get in there though. Meant to ask if the main beam bulbs are dealership only or if i'll get them in any spares shop? Are they pricey?

Nah, they're a common size. Either H1 or H4. A search will tell you which, cause I can't remember! :beat:

Bulbs are easy to change, just a 13mm socket (the long variety, so the threaded bar can go inside it) a long extension arm and a universal joint..

Simple as that!!

On the subject of headlights, anyone got any idea how to adjust the angle? Since getting my car the nearside horizontal cut-off has been lower than the offside. As usual it was mentioned each time the car was in the dealership and each time it came out the same way. Thanks in advance.

i think you follow the above as in you were going to take the whole unit out  - you can move the beam up/down when it has been loosened at the back....

It is so dark and lights are so dirty at the moment, i am thinking of getting some new bulbs.... Are all these "xenon" bulbs ok in a VX? I often see the lights bouncing up and down on signs as i approach them and dont want to get flashed every night....

cheers CC

One you have removed the headlight there is a silver coloured screw visable, im sure this is for adjusting the headlight position...

Just becarefull adjusting it as im sure ive read on here they can sieze, and could possibly snap... give a good lube with WD40 or sommit first...

Cheers

It's not a question of the adjusting screw seizing. It is glued in a fixed position. I believe the headlights were adjusted at "birth", and never intended to be adjusted after that. Only try adjusting it if you can't get it right through loosening the headlight and moving it about that way.

On the subject of Headlight adjustment. If you look under the wheel arch, there is a circular rubber seal, behind the headlight unit. If you take this off then you will be able to see the adjustment screw. I think clockwise is up and so on. Hope this helps Adam
