Ok, i've had the spax for just over a month now and they have developed a breathing problem! over bumps they sigh and suck air (which not only sounds shite is affecting performance) I had a word with Chris from regal on tuesday 27th and he was great, ie very suprised they had gone wrong, would send out a new set of rear dampers as they had them in stock. Great i thought, they can get them in the post tues, i get them fitted wed. I was very happy to do as I was told and leave it to them. I rang regal on friday, slightly miffed to find Chris was in Germany and nobody could do anything for me at that time. This is not what I expect when i am told to leave it with them. This is just a small rant at the moment, and a warning to those with the spax to listen very carefully for strange noises (speedbumps are the best to test with). Hopefully Chris will return from Germany very soon and everything will work out ok, ie before the NomtiesII run next weekend (otherwise R3D VX will sadly be missing from the lineup) Feeling a tad tetchy today, two new dampers in the post will solve this i'm sure. Mike.

Sounds like one is leaking, that's interesting !!

But not unusual for Spax IMO, I'm afraid.

One of the reasons I went for Nitron.

It always seems strange the idea of replacing Bilstein with Spax IMO.

every batch of shocks always has some rotten ones.... bilstein is no exception; IMO they grew to "cult " status among hot hatches upgraders, but they tend to be overpriced for what they offer... I submitted my spax to all sort of track tortures and so far no probs. stock bilsteins are a cheap compromise for decent road handling and nothing more. fine for the avg road enthusiast, need major upgrade if track usage is planned, be it spax, JRZ, nitron.....they all work fine as long as they are set-up properly. cost is another issue...spax has a very fav. cost/effectiveness ratio, and I'll replace'em in two years time anyway, do to their extreme use on track.

Right, after a small rant to regal on monday i now have two new rears that should arrive today. It wasn't all plain sailing though, at first the girl at regal wanted to charge me for a whole new kit then refund me the balance if Spax agreed the claim was valid!!! You can imagine how that went down!!! :9mm: But after gentle negotiation :beat: she came round to my way of thinking (thanks chris(@regal)) Just waitin for the RE050's now and R3D will be back to rude health. Mike :P

Agreed, I don't ever use Bilstein, or really promote it. There are better value for money shocks on the market. My own experience of Spax hasn't been great, and they do tend to leak more than a lot of other shocks I've come across.

My point was just that Bilstein are a good quality shock - sure every brand of shock can leak, but Bilstein's do last well. If I was to replace the Bilstein's on my car, it would be with a premium brand, which I do not feel Spax are.

rant away now if you want....

No need! the Spax were fantastic before they started to breathe! certainally far better than the standard stuff which is fab anyway. As long as they keep honoring the warranty and replacing any duff ones I'm still happy. fitting takes a matter of mins. The only reason Regal were a bit slow was this was the first set that had gone wrong so they had to clear it with Spax first. This hurdle has been overcome now and I've just had a text from the better half saying the new shocks have just arrived at home. Nice one, am off to the fitters. Mike :D
